 ABOUT ME

My roots are on my native island of Curaçao. This fact feeds my images with a necessary cause and content of memory, melancholy and nostalgia for light, colour, earth and sea.

I investigate the possibilities of shaping this content with clay, sand, stone and pigments combined with grown materials such as branches, sponges, cacti, bones etc. into mixed media objects.

On many walks through nature, wherever I may be, I take interesting chunks of weathered nature with me to process into a newly composed image.

With my work I want to tempt others to also make or enter into a connection with specific elements from nature.

The research into the original beauty of these fragments of nature and the protection of the context is an important aspect to show in a new composition.

My ceramics connect, merge and reunite meanings that are not fixed. Transforming finds so that everydayness disappears but also acquires another dimension.

My collages upgrade the scraps of paper and up-cycle the old images into a new whole with a different coherence and meaning. Combinations are made of the reality of photos and abstraction of memories. Assembling is like the reverse of peeling off old layers of surfaces weathered by sun, wind and sea air.

The exhibition of my work with the theme "Curacao" and with the title: Symbiotic Roots, has received almost 900 visitors from July 2 to July 31, 2022 in the Princenhaags museum near Breda. I am incredibly proud that so many purposefully, and some unconsciously, have come to enjoy my works. Pictures are below!
